Bigger Bolder Better Grant

In early 2010, The Rotary Club of Maysville and The Rotary Club of Central Calcutta sponsored a Matching Grant for 100 pediatric heart surgeries in India. The project called "Healing Little Hearts" is a part of the bigger, bolder, better brain child of RIDE Shekhar Mehta. Director Elect Shekhar told us at District Conference in New Bern about his initiative to form a Rotary India Humanity Foundation and bring many projects under one umbrella. Hospitals, schools, micro grants, vocational centers, safe water and maternal and child centers are included and will bring more focus on what is truly needed in India as well as place them in strategic locations.

The first pediatric heart surgery recipient is pictured. This surgery is the first of 100 and the cost is approximately $1,100 for each child. Along with the two sponsoring clubs 2 other Districts in USA and Districts in Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, and India contributed to make the grant total $118,000. This shows the impact of collaboration between Districts and shows the power of Rotary.

Matching Grants are successful when a personal connection is made between Rotarians. When that occurs, BIG THINGS HAPPEN. If you would like more information on a grant opportunity for any part of this initiative in India or information on connections in other countries, please contact Assistant Rotary Coordinator Nancy Barbee. Dream Big!!!
